Assessment and Treatment for Pastors and Church Staff

Purpose

To serve those clergy persons and church staff who are struggling with emotional or mental health issues.   These challenges include:

  • chemical addictions
  • obsessive or compulsive behaviors
  • codependency
  • pornography
  •  sex addiction
  • marital or relationship conflicts
  • burnout as the result of workaholism

Clinicians and the pastoral staff from the Cokesbury Counseling Center (CCC) and the Recovery at Cokesbury Network (RACN) will develop customized treatment plans that will propel individuals toward holistic recovery.

Referrals

At the recommendation of district superintendents and/or conference episcopacy, clergy and church staff will attend a weeklong series of batteries and assessments to determine what course of action they should pursue. Clergy are encouraged to reach out to their conference leadership before their conference leadership is forced to reach out to them, but candidates will only be accepted if they receive a referral from said leadership

Intake

While initial inquiries from individuals or their conference representatives may take place via email, the client will be required to complete an intake assessment over the phone at least two weeks before visiting Knoxville for evaluation. Additionally, the client will need to secure a medical physical to assess his/her capacity to receive mental health services and to identify any underlying medical conditions which might exacerbate their current condition. Other pre-assessment paperwork may be assigned as is relevant to each client on an individual basis.

Logistics

All phases of assessment, up to and including the furnishing of a treatment plan, will take place at the CCC or Cokesbury Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. Transportation to and in Knoxville are the responsibility of the client at the discretion of their home conference. Housing in Knoxville will be arranged by the RACN prior to the client’s arrival. Staff from CCC and RACN will be available to assist the client as needed upon their arrival in Knoxville and throughout their stay.
